Finger Lakes Kennel Club Helps Local Fire Department Save Pets Of All Sizes

The Finger Lakes Kennel Club presented the Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response with two Pet Oxygen Mask kits at the club’s July 12 Meeting.  Beth Harrington, Assistant Director/EMS Coordinator, accepted the donation which will be deployed to the Dryden Ambulance/Fire Department. The donation of the Pet Oxygen Mask kits means that the Dryden Ambulance/Fire Department will be able to outfit two of their trucks, helping them provide better care to the community.
According to Wag’N Enterprises, LLC who produces the oxygen mask kits, “far too many pets die each year of smoke asphyxiation…. While firemen attempt to get pets safely out of burning structures, they are not able to revive them unless they have the proper equipment — pet oxygen masks. These specially-designed animal masks can be used both on conscious pets that have suffered from smoke inhalation and pets that need to be resuscitated after losing consciousness from exposure to the dangerous toxic fumes.”  Each kit allows rescue workers to help animals as small as birds & pockets pets up to large dogs.
The Finger Lakes Kennel Club raised the funds for these Pet Oxygen Mask kits at their Spring Match show this past March.  They plan to hold additional fund raisers to support the purchase of additional kits for the Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response.

Reminder for the Earthdog Weekend: each day we are offering *two* Tests. Each test has three or four classes available.
The price break for multiple classes is for the same dog entered in a second class IN THE SAME TEST. This is most often for when a Master Dog is entered in Senior as well. A dog entered in a class in the morning and in the afternoon is entered in two DIFFERENT tests and therefore will pay the first entry fee rate for both the morning and afternoon.

From Susan Morse……I am pleased to announce that Cane finished his ASCA (Australian Shepherd Club of America) Rally Championship at the age of 11 years 10 months. I believe he might be the first Malionis to ever complete this title. In order to earn this Rally title, one has to finish the title in the Master class after doing Novice, Advance and Open. Then one needs 100 points in Excellent and 100 in Master along with five times in each class of scoring 195 or better. Points are based on scores of 191 or above with 191 receiving one point, 192 two points and so forth. So the maximum is 10 points per class per show. Of course the Master level is the most difficult and has elements of obedience between open and utility. Along the way Cane received five High in Trials and eight High Combine (highest Rally scores at the show between Excellent and Masters classes). While working on this title, Cane qualified every time and fourteen times he received scores of 195 or better in both classes with many perfect scores. He complete this title at the HONEY ASCA show in August with a perfect 200 from Masters, a second placement and High Combine. Cane has titles in AKC, ASCA, APDT, CPE, two Weight pulling associations, and from AMBC his ROM’s. Total number of titles and sub-titles are 85. This was accomplished by participating in breed confirmation, obedience, agility, rally and weight pulling. Cane also has sired one litter and has been intact throughout his career. To sum it up, his new name is:

Anne Williams – FLKC Good Sportsman Award 2015

Anne Williams – FLKC Good Sportsman Award 2015

This member joined the club in the late 1980s(1987?)and has been an active and working member ever since. She is also an active member of IDTC.
She served many terms on the Board of Directors, and is known for her calm and reasoned approach to all issues.
She is often seen driving the golf cart around at the dog shows. She has no problem in getting up early and being there for the early morning jobs. At the Salt City shows the golf cart would go back and forth between COP and the cow palace. At Wine Country, it still goes back and forth between the club and superintendent’s tent and the obedience area. IDTC Obedience chairs are thankful for her help.
She has owned and competed with all three variations of her breeds. Long haired, short haired and black, and has competed and titled dogs in AKC conformation, obedience, rally tracking, coursing and in many non-AKC venues as well. Weight pulling and now Barn Hunt are events her dogs excel at.
I am proud to have Anne Williams as my friend, and also proud to have her as a member of the Finger Lakes Kennel Club.
It is with great honor that I present her with the 2015 Good Sportsmanship Award!!!!
