Finger Lakes Kennel Club Helps Local Fire Department Save Pets Of All Sizes

The Finger Lakes Kennel Club presented the Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response with two Pet Oxygen Mask kits at the club’s July 12 Meeting.  Beth Harrington, Assistant Director/EMS Coordinator, accepted the donation which will be deployed to the Dryden Ambulance/Fire Department. The donation of the Pet Oxygen Mask kits means that the Dryden Ambulance/Fire Department will be able to outfit two of their trucks, helping them provide better care to the community.

According to Wag’N Enterprises, LLC who produces the oxygen mask kits, “far too many pets die each year of smoke asphyxiation…. While firemen attempt to get pets safely out of burning structures, they are not able to revive them unless they have the proper equipment — pet oxygen masks. These specially-designed animal masks can be used both on conscious pets that have suffered from smoke inhalation and pets that need to be resuscitated after losing consciousness from exposure to the dangerous toxic fumes.”  Each kit allows rescue workers to help animals as small as birds & pockets pets up to large dogs.
The Finger Lakes Kennel Club raised the funds for these Pet Oxygen Mask kits at their Spring Match show this past March.  They plan to hold additional fund raisers to support the purchase of additional kits for the Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response.
